MSNBC posted a list of top 5 innovations that changed gaming as we know it... here they are:

  • 1st Person Shooters
  • Multi-directional analog controllers
  • 3D graphics
  • Gamepads
  • Ability to save games
  • Honorable Mention: Online Multiplayer

Anyone else have any opinions or other suggestions...? This list seems a bit... weak.

Not exactly earth shattering stuff...  umm, the ability to save games?  Yeeees, that's a good thing, but playing games worth saving your progress for... now that's something.

How about cut scenes? They're a pivotal part of streamlining a story into the action, and without them I don't think video games would ever been able to rival Hollywood in the storytelling department.

I think Ms. Pac-Man was the first game to incorporate cut scenes... now they're like a requirement of every game.

What the hell did we do before them?
