Oops, EA did it again!

Remember back in the day when EA was a brutal game publisher that couldn't misfire on anything they released?

Yeah, me neither, it was so long ago. But I downloaded the Battlefield 1943 demo today to give it a whirl, and, well, I can't tell you how it is because I can't get into it. I get a perpetual "failed to connect to EA online" error message.

Googling "battlefield 1943 connection problems" brings up some fun results. Mind you, we're now over 24 hours since BF1943 has been released, yet these problems still persist.

The best part is, the first response to this problem was a round-about hack that seemed to be gaining some traction, at least in various forums. This hack required the user to download EA's Facebreaker demo, play a bit, upload the fighting stats, and reportedly this would "refresh" your EA online account so you can get into 1943... this hack was actually suggested by an EA moderator on their forums, believe it or not... but in true EA fashion, the Facebreaker demo was pulled off of Xbox Live Marketplace so I can't even tell you if it works.

Perhaps this was a way for EA to push their cruddy Facebreakers onto the unsuspecting public who wanted in on some BF1943 action? (I kid - but only partly)

In any case, bravo EA, on an exceptional job well done!

At least I don't have to worry about dropping $15 anytime soon... I'll let the other suckers pay to beta test!
